Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon (RMUTP) Joins 58 Universities Nationwide to Sign a Declaration of Intent for Sustainable Development with the Network of Sustainable Universities of Thailand and the United Nations in Thailand
RMUTP, along with 58 universities across Thailand, signed a Declaration of Intent for Sustainable Development with the Network of Sustainable Universities of Thailand and the United Nations in Thailand. This initiative aims to drive institutions toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under the framework of the United Nations, aligning with Thailand’s aspiration to become a high-income, inclusive, sustainable, resilient, and progressive country. The goals are in accordance with the 20-Year National Strategy, the 13th National Economic and Social Development Plan, and the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model.
Dr.Sorasutee Buapool, Assistant to the President for Research and Innovation Development at RMUTP, represented the university at the signing ceremony, along with prominent figures such as Prof. Dr.Pongrak Sri Bangon, Chair of the Council of University Presidents of Thailand; Asst. Prof. Dr.Kritchai Sribunma, Chair of the Network of Sustainable Universities of Thailand; and Michaela Friberg-Storey, UN Resident Coordinator in Thailand.
The event was held at the United Nations Conference Center, Ratchadamnoen Nok Road, Bangkok, on November 13, 2024.
Dr.Sorasutee emphasized the critical role of educational institutions in youth development by imparting knowledge through education and research processes. This effort results in producing quality graduates who serve as key drivers of development at local, national, and global levels. Signing this declaration with the United Nations in Thailand marks a significant step in fostering education for sustainable development at a national level.
The initiative focuses on enhancing the capabilities of administrators, faculty members, students, parents, and communities to engage in activities that support the achievement of SDGs. Sustainability principles will be integrated into university curricula, teaching methodologies, and assessment strategies. Additionally, the program aims to develop skills, competencies, values, and behaviors in students that align with sustainable practices.
The signing event seeks to establish a collaborative network among universities across Thailand, promoting sustainable development in partnership with the Network of Sustainable Universities of Thailand and the United Nations in Thailand.
