On December 15, 2023, Dr. Natworapol Rachsiriwatcharabul, President of Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon, welcomed General Chettha Thanajaro, President of the World Muay Thai Council, who presided over the opening ceremony of the Muay Thai event honoring the 100th anniversary of the death of Admiral HRH Prince Abhakara Kiartivongse, Prince of Chumphon as Krom Luang Chumphon Khet Udomsak or “Sadet Tia” The event took place at a temporary boxing ring at the Faculty of Business Administration, Bangkok Commercial Campus. Before the opening ceremony, they paid respects to the statue of Admiral HRH Prince Abhakara.
General Chettha Thanajaro stated that this event was a collaborative effort between Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon, the Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon Alumni Association, and the Rangsit International Boxing Stadium. The event aimed to promote, preserve, and disseminate the art and culture of Muay Thai, which is a significant soft power of Thailand.
Dr. Natworapol Rachsiriwatcharabul mentioned that the Bangkok Commercial Campus was once the residence of Sadet Tia, the father of the Royal Thai Navy. The campus also houses a statue of the Prince of Chumphon, who decreed that it be preserved to commemorate his various contributions. Therefore, the Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon community holds a deep bond and reverence for him. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his death, the university organized this Muay Thai event to honor Sadet Tia, who was passionate about supporting Muay Thai and its fighters, while also promoting and preserving the art of Muay Thai.
During the event, General Chettha Thanajaro presented awards to the supporters of the Muay Thai event. The competition featured a total of six Muay Thai matches, including bouts between male fighters, female fighters, and international fighters.
